Do not miss the Feria del Cerrito del Carmen! This is one of the most traditional and ancient of Guatemala City and takes place in July on Avenida Juan Chapín from the first to the fourth street of Zone 1. It is dedicated to Our Lady of the Virgen del Carmen. There will be more than 70 stalls of typical foods such as garnachas, crazy corn, caramelized apples, churros, donuts, muffins, steaks, atol and religious articles. In addition, enjoy rides as well as many family and cultural activities.
On this day, the city celebrates the day of Patroness of Guatemala with parades and processions in the streets at the Historic Center.
Each November first, residents of Santiago Sacatepéquez and Sumpango honor the dead by flying vibrantly colored religious or folkloric themed kites made of cloth, paper and bamboo. You can see these incredible creations high over local cemeteries.
